I just wanted to post a quick update on the letter C, suspended in the east (yes, we had a letter C for a while). I met with Brother Biesen this morning and together we replaced all six lights in the lamp with new LED bulbs. Hopefully we won’t have to replace them again for a very long time.
A couple of things to note about the G lamp. First, there is a single flathead screw on the back left side that holds the entire back piece in place. There is no hinge. Once that screw is removed, the entire back panel pulls off. Secondly, I was zapped twice when replacing the top dead center bulb. After replacing the back piece, I was able to touch the outer metal case without issue, but I think as some point the lamp will need to come down and be rebuilt so as not to zap any one else.
I’d like to thank Brother Biesen for helping out this morning. We’re all ready to go for Brother Toland’s 2nd degree on Thursday.
Respectfully,

Humboldt Lodge No. 79 – April 2024
Hello brothers,
April is nearly here and everywhere I look; I see the delightful signs of Spring in bloom. It’s so pleasing to see the flowers popping up everywhere, and it reminds me of the time I spent in my youth with my grandmother. She loved her garden, and I was her little helper; always quick with the trowel or the watering can. Together we planted countless annuals and bulbs each Spring. It was time well spent, and I still remember it like it was yesterday. Those are some very fond memories and to this day, I love gardening and the springtime as much as grandma did.
A couple of weeks ago, the leadership team traveled to San Ramon for the Annual Master and Wardens retreat where a good time was had by all. There was a new format this year that included a lot more group participation. There was masonic trivia, the usual breakout sessions and we were asked to buddy-up with a brother not from our lodge. My buddy was Worshipful Jarrod Washington of Penrhyn Gold Hill No. 32 and it was a pleasure speaking with and getting to know him. I’m looking forward to seeing him again at this year’s Grand York Rite Sessions in Burbank, CA.
The guys have been putting in some good practices in preparation for our upcoming degree. Please brothers, come out and support our candidate.
March 28th is a Second Degree for Brother Darren Albert Toland.
We also have a new candidate and a third degree on the horizon. I’ll keep you posted. More updates to follow shortly after I review the events calendar.
Our next stated meeting is Thursday, April 4th and we’ll be enjoying a presentation from Bethel No. 86 – Job’s Daughters and the triumphant return of Sandy Lambo’s famous meatloaf dinner! So glad you are feeling better Sandy.

And now, I’d like to introduce Brother Cory Ng. Cory hails from San Francisco and spent some time in Minnesota while his father worked for what would become Northwest Airlines. In the 4th grade, he moved back to the bay area where he lived until 2003. At that time, he moved to Humboldt County, and met Brother Josh Lawrence while working at the Bay Shore Mall. They became fast friends and kept in touch when Cory moved back down south to Sacramento a year later. In 2018, Cory made the move to Humboldt permanently. By that time, Josh was a member of Humboldt Lodge and introduced Cory to Freemasonry. A few of Cory’s uncles that live in San Francisco are masons, and his friend Aaron Eaton is the master of Redding-Trinity Lodge No. 27.
Cory enjoys the friendship and support of the brothers. Knowing that we are always there for each other is very important to him. He also likes the social aspects of membership and attending our events.
In his spare time, Cory enjoys the great outdoors. Hiking, walking his dog, and shooting at the range are some of his favorite activities. He is also a big fan of Star Wars and Disney. I’ll bet he is looking forward to the next season of The Mandalorian as much as I am.

Humboldt No. 79 – February 2024
Greetings brethren, February is here and it brought wet weather and chills. As I sit and write this article, I occasionally look out the window to see the rain falling sideways. The wind is blowing that hard. I don’t know about you, but I’m really looking forward to drying out and getting some sun, hopefully soon.
We have started our regular degree practices. We will be meeting every Thursday evening at 6pm. A meal (usually pizza) will be provided. We have a third degree for brother Kevin Miller tentatively scheduled for February 29th. Confirmation of the date and time is forthcoming. Please come out and support our brother as he is raised to the sublime degree of master mason.
The next Humboldt 79 mason in our “Get to Know Your Lodge” series is brother Gabriel Cirrintano. Gabriel is originally from Chicago. He moved to Humboldt County in 2015 and settled in Willow Creek. He volunteered and taught music. Guitar is his specialty, but he also teaches drums and piano. He spent time working at Dream Quest youth center before moving to Eureka and getting a position in the Eureka city school district as a behavior support assistant. Gabriel is currently studying psychology and is training to become a behavior analyst. In his spare time, he enjoys playing music, reading philosophy, and spending time with his partner Shelly and his 2 years old daughter Briah. When asked what he likes best about masonry he says, it is the esoteric teachings. This led him to join the Scottish rite, so he can learn more about the morals and dogma of our gentle craft. Gabriel is looking forward to meeting all the brethren and getting more involved in our lodge. You can usually find him at our stated meetings and as a sideliner at our degrees.
